My work is modern and contemporary – often depicting women. I do free, flowing bright pictures and enjoy ignoring perspective and the way things should be done. I love a sense of fun and flirtatiousness in my work – and I try to depict our notions of women and sexuality, in a light hearted manner. I take just as much joy in naming the work, as it is as much a part of the art as the paint on the canvas.
To date I have participated several exhibitions in Melbourne, Canberra and across country NSW, I have won a couple of small art prizes in little galleries – and strive to win something huge one day! I regularly have my works on display at Aarwun gallery in Canberra, and have shipped work to New Zealand, Washington DC and Denmark.
In 2011 I placed third in Body Canvas – Special Effects- where I painted my model into a peacock- made a wonderful headpiece for her- and custom made a tail of over 200 peacock feathers and tulle. It took me ten hours to paint her body in feathers and gemstones, and at the end of the night she had to just hop in the shower and wash it all off! Amazing experience though to spend a day with hundreds of super talented people all donating their time for a the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The best advice I have been given thus far is “if you know what you are doing- you are repeating yourself” and I try to apply this to my creative endeavors – and jump into new mediums and experiences to see where it leads. The biggest compliment I get is when someone loves my work enough to buy it – and this spurs me on to keep striving.
As long as I am breathing I will be striving to learn and create new things, however manic it sends me!
