(Note Steph’s upcoming exhibition at the Cellar “Filling the Well”)
“My art practice has always been a visual diary of what is happening in my life and a way for me to express it without the use of speech.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to go to Italy this year for nearly one month. I travelled on this journey with my beautiful mother and two brothers.
For me this was one of the most inspiring and creative experiences of my life. To see such beauty in all things, nothing being ordinary, I have endeavoured to show this in my works, hence the doors, windows, window boxes, light posts etc which are depicted in my most recent pieces.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Michelangelo’s David!!! What a huge sculpture! I was totally overwhelmed by his size and the beauty from which David was born from a piece/chunk of marble.
The piece “Wow, David!” was inspired from my meeting of David.
From this wondrous experience has come a change in my palette, my usual bright colours have been exchanged for more subtle hues, creating a softer approach to my subject matters.
I am sure that my bright colours will come back but for now I’m relishing in my new palette!
YMCA – Jersey style, is a piece that I started earlier this year, I had this picture in my mind for a while and I do certainly love my cows, so this was a fun piece to do.
Enjoy!”
Love Steph xx
